Barbera D'Alba Castello di Verduno
Castello di Verduno is a beautiful old building at the top of the village of Verduno, on the edge of the Barolo zone. The Castello di Verduno wine label unites two cellars, one under the castle in the Barolo zone and the other near the famous 'cru' Rabajà, in the Barbaresco area. Wines are produced in Barbaresco then bottled and stored in Verduno. All wines are vinified traditionally by Mario Andrion: Barbaresco, Barolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and Verduno Pelaverga Piccolo.
The Barbera grapes are cultivated from a number of south-facing specially selected vineyards in Nieve. The vines are planted to white calcareous- clay soils. Harvest is completed entirely by hand, carefully selecting the best bunches and placing them in small perforated boxes. At the winery, grapes are macerated with periodic manual punch-downs over the course of 10 days in stainless steel tank. The wine is aged in large Slovenian oak barrels for a 3 month period and then transferred to stainless steel for 6 months. Once bottled, the wine is laid down to rest for 2 months prior to being released to market.

Taste: |
A great example of Barbera from Alba, Piedmont. The wine boasts a beautiful mix of red and dark fruit: ripe dark cherry, strawberry, ripe damson plum and black currants. There is an underlying crushed violet petal florality, with hints of sandlewood, nutmeg, anise and forest floor. The wine is dry, rich and full bodied. |
