Chianti Classico Riserva 'Borro del Diavolo' Ormanni
The 13th Century Ormanni estate is located in the heart of Chianti, between the towns of Poggibonsi and Castellinai. For the past 200 years, the estate has been owned by the Brini Batacchi family who has been producing the greatest and true expressions of what the region has to offer.
Borro del Diavolo takes its name from the creek (‘borro’) that flows beneath the vineyard from which the grapes are harvested for this reserve. In early October, the most pristine bunches of Sangiovese grapes are selected from the Borro del Diavolo vineyard, and from the 50-year old Montignano vineyard; both situated on the same south-facing, stony ridge. The vines are trained on guyot trellising systems and are planted to rich clay and limestone soils.
After harvest is complete, the grapes are brought to the winery where fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks, and malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks. The wine is then aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak casks and French oak barrels. The wine is refined for a period of 3 months in concrete tanks, followed by a minimum of 6 months in bottle before it is made available for purchase.

A beautiful and classic representation of Sangiovese from Chianti Classico. The wine is dry, full-bodied, with mouthwatering acidity to nicely complement the fine, grippy tannins. Lots of red berry fruits fill the nose and follow through on to the palate; tart red cherries, red currants, and raspberries. The fruit is joined by notes of balsamic, tar, and some sweet baking spices: cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. There is an orange oil and bergamot note to the wine, to nicely complement the notes of black earl grey tea leaves. Complex yet refined, enjoy this wine at cellar temperature. |
