El Pedal Tempranillo Hermanos Hernaiz
‘El Pedal’ Tempranillo is made from grapes grown in vineyards belonging to the Hernáiz family in the villages located in Rioja Alta; Fuenmayor, Cenicero, Navarrete, Hornos de Moncalvillo and Baños de Rioja.
This wine is made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes, mostly grown on bush vines of over 30 years of age. Although the grapes come from Rioja Alta vineyards, they come from climate areas which are less extreme than the family’s best-known vineyard, “La Emperatriz”.
Less Atlantic influence means that the wines do not require as long of an aging period.
At the winery, fermentation occurs in concrete and stainless steel tanks, at low temperatures and with gentle pumpovers. The malolactic fermentation takes place in a mixture of cement tanks, 5,000-litre wooden vats and used 500-litre oak barrels.
The wine is then aged for 5 months within these vessels. At the beginning of spring prior to bottling, 10% of wine from the previous vintage is blended into the current vintage. This wine has spent a year in barrel and is then bottled and aged for a short period of time before it is released.

Taste: |
A youthful, approachable expression of Tempranillo. The fruit is tart and ripe black and red cherries, blackberries, strawberries and black currants. There is a pleasant aroma of fresh cut violets on the wine with an underlying backbone of caramel and cinnamon. The wine is dry, medium-bodied, with a long length and refreshing acidity. This is the perfect wine to serve a little chilled. |
