Gavi di Gavi 'Tuffo' Morgassi Superiore
Morgassi Superiore winery, set up by Marino Piacitelli in 1993 is expressed in its flagship wine Gavi del comune di Gavi, produced from white Cortese grapes and certified with the Piedmontese DOCG. Alongside their father in setting up and developing the Morgassi Superiore business, Marina and Cecilia Piacitelli have risen to the challenge of making the winery grow according to a combination of time-honoured tradition and innovative technology in a tireless commitment to quality. Morgassi Superiore is a small estate, 50 hectares with annual production of 150,000 bottles on 19 hectares of vineyards.
The vineyards are found at 300m above seal level and the vines are trained on low cordon trellising systems on marl, chalky clay soils. Harvest is completed entirely by hand and once grapes are at the winery, they are chilled for 12 hours overnight before destemming and a soft pressing the following day. The must is then fermented in stainless steel vats with up to 6 months aged sur lie. Once bottled, the wine is aged for an additional 4 months before it is released to market.

A dry, medium bodied and crisp expression of Cortese; tart lemon and lime citrus zest and pulp, with crunchy green apple and bosc pear. Beyond the fruit is an underlying note of fresh white acacia and Hawthorn flowers, almond peel, and a crushed rock minerality. The wine finishes fresh and precise. |
