Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano Arnaldo Caprai
Arnaldo Caprai, originally an entrepreneur in the textile industry, founded his winery in 1971 by purchasing 12.5 acres of land in Montefalco. In 1988, his son Marco took over the estate to revolutionize the grape that has been growing in the region for more than 400 years: Sagrantino. Today, they are considered to be a benchmark producer of Sagrantino di Montefalco. Arnaldo Caprai is further celebrated as a producer committed to sustainable farming practices and recognized as being champions for their winemaking in Umbria.
The inaugural vintage of Caprai’s Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano is 1979. The wine takes its name from the region of Collepiano where the vines are trained on gentle slopes. The average age of the vines is 40 years which adds to the intensity and concentration of flavour of the grapes. After 22 months of aging in French oak barrels and further aging of 6 months in the bottle, the wine is a reflection of a very well balanced vintage.

This is a powerful wine with notes of blackberry jam, balsamic, and clover and pepper. Sagrantino's high tannins and affinity for oak mean that it matures particularly well. |
