Sangarida Mencia ATTIS Bodegas Y Vinedos
Following the family tradition and history of ATTIS Bodega y Viñedos, the Fariña brothers have expanded their philosophy of working with authentic, artisanal, indigenous varieties. Together with their longtime collaborator, Jean-François Hébrard, in 2019 they embarked upon a new project in Bierzo that was born together with Robustiano Fariña’s daughter, Lía, who brings together her father’s roots in Rias Baixas and her mother’s in El Bierzo. The mythology of ATTIS is now transported to this neighboring wine region. Sangarida is a daring project, in style and image, that highlights ATTIS’ overflowing creativity that traversed the mountains of Leon to find its second home.
The Mencía for Sangarida comes from 50-year-old vineyards in the district of San Lorenzo del Bierzo, on the slopes of the Montes-Aquilianos. Here, the bush vines are trained on gobelet trellising systems; organically grown and cultivated. The grapes are meticulously selected, harvested by hand, and are carefully placed into small boxes. At the winery, the grapes are de-stemmed and gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously without temperature control. Once complete, the wine is matured in stainless steel for three months on its fine lees.

A fresh and youthful Mencía from Bierzo. Sour cherry, pomegranate, blackberry, and black currant drive the wine. The fruit is backed by notes of black licorice, cracked pepper, fresh-turned earth, and crushed rocks. The wine is dry, medium-bodied, with refreshing acidity and loads of juicy fruit. If you’re looking for any everyday red sipper, look no further! |
